Rescued young girls play with their jewelery at the Rescue Foundation, a non-governmental organization founded to rescue young girls (some of whom are Devadasis) from brothels in and around Mumbai, India. The foundation houses over 50 rescued girls at a time, most of whom are under the age of 18. Many of the girls suffer from some form of post-traumatic stress syndrome. One girl doesn't speak while another tried to commit suicide by setting herself on fire while still at a brothel. Her burned arms are visible in this photo.
