Cowboy boots and tack are on display outside veterinarian Dr Billy Bergin's Paniolo Preservation Society offices in Waimea, Hawaii. Dr. Bergin has long treated the Hawaiian cowboys' horses and cattle and founded the Paniolo Preservation Society to promote the preservation of paniolo history and culture. He has a large collection of historical photographs and items related to the history of cowboy culture in Hawaii. "There have been cowboys in Hawaii longer than in the west and their history is worth preserving," says Bergin of his reason for founding the preservation society.
